概要

“Lord Kitchener Wants You” は、第一次世界大戦のとき（1914年）にイギリスで作られた、有名な 兵士募集ポスター（recruitment poster）です。

ポスターには、当時の陸軍大臣だった キッチナー卿（Lord Kitchener） の顔が描かれていて、彼が
指をまっすぐ見ている人に向けて指差している ような構図になっています。
その下に大きな文字で：

“YOUR COUNTRY NEEDS YOU”
（＝「祖国が君を必要としている」）

と書かれています。

“Lord Kitchener Wants You” is a famous British poster from World War I (1914). It was made to ask men to join the army.

In the picture, Lord Kitchener, the British War Minister, is pointing his finger at you.
He looks straight at the viewer, and the words say:

“YOUR COUNTRY NEEDS YOU.”

It means: “You should help your country.”

This style became very famous.
Later, the United States made a similar poster with Uncle Sam and the words

“I WANT YOU.”

The poster is now a symbol of patriotic feeling and war propaganda in history.
